Is theere a way to paint plastic without the paint peeling off?

I am re-doing my dads old acoustic guitar and it has a picguard on it that is plastic. I want to paint the pic guard black but poeple say the paint will just peel off over time. Is there a way that I can paint it without the paint peeling off?Is theere a way to paint plastic without the paint peeling off?
Another option would be to take the guitar to a guitar store and have them replace the pic guard. This would be more aesthetically pleasing. Is theere a way to paint plastic without the paint peeling off?
I like the solution of removing the pick guard and getting it replaced. No matter what you paint it with, eventually the paint will flake off from strumming. That is why pick guards are made from pre-colored nylon instead of being painted.

If you must - prepare the surface with denatured alcohol and some very light sanding to knock off any burrs. Remove the guard and spray with Krylon plastic paint. Let it dry and spray again. It's only $4-5 a can.
There's a spray paint for plastic - I think by Rustoleum - that's very good. Check hardware stores or look up Rustoleum on line. I don't know what a pic guard is, but if you can't get it off to spray paint, spray a little paint into a container and then use an artists brush on the pic guard.
Rustoleum (or any other higher quality spray paint) will probably hold up well if applied correctly. To help adhesion, try evenly scuffing the whole guitar with a fine (220) sandpaper, and spraying a coat of bonding primer before painting.
