The house that i live in was painted before i moved in. Looked beautiful and smooth, over next few months paint started coming off in thick pieces. I think what they did is paint semi-gloss over a gloss paint. It looks terrible but i havent got a lot of money to fix it. Is there a cheap solution that wont leave me exhausted?Peeling paint help???

Tallie,

Semi-gloss paint over gloss paint won't cause this problem. Semi-gloss, gloss, flat, satin and eggshell are descriptions of the types of finish a paint has. Peeling paint is caused by different things. If a water based paint (latex paint) is applied over an oil-based paint, this may cause peeling. Moisture causes paint to peel as well. Paint will peel if the surface was not cleaned or prepped properly before painting. I am assuming this is an interior area that you refer to. If you can scrape the loose areas, sand them, wash the area and repaint it may help.
Yes it sounds like the house was painted first with an exterior enamel and then a latex over it. or it was not cleaned and primed before painting the newest coat.

The bad news is, There is no easy way to fix it, Even if you paint over it again, It will still contnue to blister and peel.

The only way to fix it is to scrap off the paint or pressure wash it to remove the loose paint, Then sand it to rough up the finish.

After that you will need to prime it and repaint it. Make sure that you use a good primer or sealer and a good quality paint.
Wallpaper.
Go to the paint store and buy a product called ZAP or ZIP it strip's paint . Fast and easy.
If its not your house dont worry about it.If its peeling off let it peel.If you want you can scrap all the loose paint.or use a heat gun to get it all off.has to come off before you can repaint.
