The paint is peeling off brickwork of our 1920's house, how can I remove the rest without damaging the bricks

High Powered pressure washer. Be careful of the mortar joints they will probably need repointing when you are doneThe paint is peeling off brickwork of our 1920's house, how can I remove the rest without damaging the bricks
hire a sand blast company and if damage is caused by them you can claim the company insurance . dont attempt this your self call the professionals who are insured . then you can be sure the job is done properleyThe paint is peeling off brickwork of our 1920's house, how can I remove the rest without damaging the bricks
DON'T USE A PRESSURE WASHER - you will most likely damage the brick and/or motor which would be a VERY costly mistake.

The best product, which is used by historic preservationists, is

called Peel Away. It has even been used on This Old House. You can find product and order information at:

leave the gas oven on for the day then come home an light a match, the bricks will be blown apart but undamaged, build a modern house with the charred remains.
soda blasting
I would think get a painter in, and nitromorse comes to mind, but i am only a layperson. These professionals have things to strip, and that is what you are needing. Stripping of the paint back to the original brickwork, without damaging the brickwork. Should be easy peasy to a professional painter, (external painter may I add). Or. if you are skint. Chip away with those tools you get for wallpaper stripping, but chisel comes to mind. just protect the bricks, and NEVER PAINT OVER THE BRICKS AGAIN....
Go to your local Ace, Home Depot, or Lowe's Hardware Store and go to the paint section and get this stuff called ';Motsenbocker's Lift Off #4 or #5';

I worked for the company and it works very well! All water based, don't need gloves, just spray it on the paint, wait 5 minutes and with your finger, you can run it across the brick and all the paint will slide off with you.

I've seen it done with a sand blaster.
You'd be best doing this with a sandblaster, the brickwork will need repointing afterwards.

If the brink is really hard you might be able to chip it off but its likely the first coat was lime-based and so soaked into the brick.

It would be bet to rip out the existing morter before the sand blasting man arrives.

Aboutæ‹¢275 per day, one day per single storey wall.

It'll look great and your walls will breath a sigh of relief. Don't fall for any of those brick sealers, walls are meant to breath.
What you should do is wire brush the flakey paint off , then buy a can of Stablising Solution wich comes by the gallon. Paint that on let it dry then re-paint your wall.
I used to do sand blasting and it depends on the type of brick. A professional company will do the job with either sand blasting or acid cleaning. They look well smart when they are done properly.
a power washer and a wire brush it wont get it all off but when your done

put a peel stop product on it you can get something like that from your local paint store
either a pressure washer or a good old fashion wire brush
First of all ....how to get it off isn't as important what type of paint you want to remove...Is the panit pealing off in strips or is it craked and flaking off...if it is the flacking off most likely its a lead based paint...be carefull and wear a respirator...with that said a pressure washer will work good.....sand blasting is another option but either one can cause some damage...most likely to the mortar between the bricks and damaged bricks too..which can be fixed.....Wire brushing it causes a lot of particals into the air and again if it is lead base use a respirator.....Hope this helps

Paint is peeling from all over the top of my car? what can i do to either repair it or make it alittle less?

to repair or alittle less noticablePaint is peeling from all over the top of my car? what can i do to either repair it or make it alittle less?
The only way to correct the problem is to have it refinished by a professional. With the clear coat pealing, the base coat is exposed and eroding. Then the primer will fail and then rust starts. It may seem expensive to repair, but it will save you a bundle in the long run.Paint is peeling from all over the top of my car? what can i do to either repair it or make it alittle less?
is it paint or clear coat? i had clear coat coming off the roof on my car and i took a razor blade and scraped it off, sanded it down and spray painted it.

Why does my Ceiling paint peel off?

Ive stripped my bedroom ceiling to the bare plasterboard as the paint was peeling off, and re-painted it with ceiling paint, but the paint is cracking and peeling off again. Any ideas why?Why does my Ceiling paint peel off?
The ceiling needs sealing first before final painting. Seal with a diluted emulsion paint. A bit messy so cover everything first. Then paint as normal. Also the ceiling above might be cold and this migh cause a problem as the cold surface will allow moisture to condense on it and this section might be permanently damp. Not dripping but slightly damp. Be sure that the loft is well insulated over this troublesome ceiling.

I have been a decorator for 30 years and this is a common problem. Why does my Ceiling paint peel off?
its quite simple really , youve got to get the monkeys with sledge hammers out of the ceiling BEFORE you paint it , if youre thinking i dont have monkeys maybe its an elephant with a tooth ache.............. or burgalers ,,,,,,,,,,, OR ALIENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is your boiler in your loft above your room??

if so then that will be why your paint is coming away, because it may be getting damp and working away at the paint, i dont know though.. its just a suggestion.
You need to seal the plaster board first

did you buy the car brand new??

i was always leary about buying a dodge because their paint jobs are horrible compared to all the others.....

have you noticed that all dodge neons have paint that is peeled off AT LEAST somewhere on the car?!

good luck, take it to your dealer that you bought it from if you bought it new because you should have a warranty that would cover something like this.I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The clear coat and paint is peeling. Is there a recall on this paint?
A quick 30 second search at www.totalrecallinfo.com reveals only one recall...here it is/

Take care.I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The clear coat and paint is peeling. Is there a recall on this paint?
I belive most them have a 100k warranty on paint. You might check that out Im not 100% certain. Also if you bought it used that might not apply. I would take it to the stealership and see what they say.

Candice you must not be familiar with the early 90's chevys. Specifically the beretta, the prob with the neons was the primer. I bet you drive a chevy though!
I didn't see a recall on the paint only certain engine cooling systems which can affect the engine.

You see this a lot especially on red or maroon colored cars but it is mainly due to inproper baking on of the color.

If you purchased it new, I would take it to the dealer and pitch a fit anyway. If you bought it used... I would probably do the same.

    Good luck.

Im painting my shoes with spray paint to add design..what can i do to keep the paint from peeling off?

You use a vinyl silk screen paint. I have been using it for the past 10 years on all my white shoes.Im painting my shoes with spray paint to add design..what can i do to keep the paint from peeling off?
ensure that your shoes areabsolutely dry before applying paint.Im painting my shoes with spray paint to add design..what can i do to keep the paint from peeling off?
sneakers? try using dye... spray paint won't stick to the material.
If you're painting on leather, you need to roughen it up a bit with sandpaper or a nail file so that the paint sticks. You might need 2 coats to get a smooth surface.

If you're painting on cloth you don't need to do anything usually. Some manufacturers recommend washing to take the sizing or starches out.
the spray paint will crack and peal the first time you take a step no matter what you do, get a dye or paint made for fabric

I have paint bubbling around my shower and peeling from a leaky shower head. ?

It's just around the edge of the shower, from moisture and lack of ventilation. For this job, what is the best course of action? I have begun to peel off the bubbly paint, and have found a soft powdery layer underneath. Do I sand to smooth and apply primer? Do I need to add another layer of whatever this powdery stuff is? Please help!?!?I have paint bubbling around my shower and peeling from a leaky shower head. ?
scrape all loose paint, then use a good primer, that 1-2-3 by zinseer is really good. Then use 2 coats of a quality paint, Probably should be caulked also after it is primerd but before you paint. Let dry thoroughly.Keep an eye on it and make sure it stays secure. Water leaks can do alot lof damage.
