What can I use to paint a dresser that is not real wood with finish that is peeling off? Any suggestions?

Remove all the current peeling stuff, and lightly sand the rest. Paint with a couple of coats of appropriate primer (try taking a drawer to a real paint store -- they can suggest the right products for the job) and then finish with a coat or two of paint.

If you're dealing with MDF (which is what I'd guess for ';not real wood';), see: http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/S鈥?/a>

When you buy paint for this project, ask for one with ';good blocking resistance'; -- blocking is when paint adheres to itself better than to what's been painted, and it causes windows to stick, cupboard doors to stick, and dresser drawers to stick to the face frame. Typically, this sort of paint is sold for painting cabinets. What can I use to paint a dresser that is not real wood with finish that is peeling off? Any suggestions?
Use a good oil based primer. Some will stick to any thing. Then go over it with the color you like. What can I use to paint a dresser that is not real wood with finish that is peeling off? Any suggestions?
If it is in the process of peeling off, paint is not a glue. It will not hold it on.

You start by sanding off all the loose stuff off so that a solid non-peeling surface remains. and then you paint it. Paint sticks real good to a surface that does not move.
