Peeling paint?

we live in an old house. The walls have been painted so many times it is peeling off the walls. They are currently painted red and need to be painted white again. But I first have to get all this peeling paint off first before I can repaint. So whats the easiest way to remove it? Currently I am heating it up with hair dryer and pulling it off.Peeling paint?
I would scrape off as much old paint as I could. If the walls are rough when you get done sand the edges smooth. Wear a dust mask so you don't breath in the particles. If you have a forced hot air heating system, cover the vents and shut the furnace blower off while you are doing this job so the dust doesn't get into your system.

If you really want a first class job, Lowes and Home depot sell a wall paper that goes over painted walls to hide imperfections. Then you paint over it with you color. Makes the walls look new. It also comes in several different textures.Peeling paint?
Please be careful ,the paint could contain lead!Paint before the 70's was lead based and can cause poisoning. Also since you mentioned this is an old house it may have materials made with asbestos.Another dangerous product when disturbed.
Be sure that when you get most of it off, that you prime prime prime!
Use a putty and knock off all the peeling paint you can, spackle the places where the paint is chipped, sand and prime. Then you are ready to paint.

Remember, 90% of the work in painting is prep work - yuck! :)
careful!! heating paint that contains lead will release lead vapors into the air. if you have small children in the household this is not good. go to a good paint store and tell them what you are experiencing, bring pictures if you think it will show better than you can describe. i am not talking a home depot type of store. i will guess the multiple coats of latex paint are pulling off the paint from a oil paint layer. this happened in my old home, too. seems that about six or seven coats of latex is what it takes to pull the paint off. be careful, good luck, and have a safe new year!
