How repair the cracking and peeling paint on the ceilings of our 50-year-old house, repainted 20 years ago?

We bought our house 20 years ago. At that time the ceilings were spackled and painted with oil paint. Now the ceilings of almost every room are showing cracks. Why is this, and how can it be repaired. How repair the cracking and peeling paint on the ceilings of our 50-year-old house, repainted 20 years ago?
Generally, paint jobs last anywhere from 5-10 years - while they can last long, most homes will ';settle'; a bit, and during the course of that, paint cracks. It just happens. If you haven't repainted in 20 years, it's time to do it. The best way is to strip the old paint, put down foundation paint, then put on at least two coats of your preferred color, maybe three for the ceiling. How repair the cracking and peeling paint on the ceilings of our 50-year-old house, repainted 20 years ago?
use a latex paint, mix a small amount of dry spacking to it, or buy some spackel paint in a spray can, [lowes, menards, home depot] spray over the cracks,
