How do you stop paint from peeling?

I just painted my retainer case yesterday. ( it was yellow, i painted it a nice blue). i can feel the paint is sorta ';grippy'; and whenever i scratch it it comes off. what will protect it from this? How do you stop paint from peeling?
It could just need to dry further. Even though paint dries on the surface rather quickly, it takes a few weeks for it to dry all the way through.

If after a few weeks, you are still getting peeling paint then the piece should have at least been sanded and possibily primed before repainting. Or the piece was painted originally with oil base paint and you applied latex over it. Can't do that.

If the paint peels/rubs or chips off, the surface was not prepared properly to allow the new paint to adhere.

If this is the case, wait a few weeks, test the paint. If it scrapes off then sand the piece and remove all paint that comes off easily. Some may adhere and you can leave that. But make sure the whole piece gets a good light sanding.

Then use a good primer like Kilz2, allow to dry per directions then repaint with the blue. How do you stop paint from peeling?
Your retainer case is probably made of plastic. You'll want to use a paint specifically made for plastic. You'll also want to prep the surface by roughing it up with sandpaper or steel wool so the paint can ';grab';.

If you've used paint that isn't compatible with the base you've painted, there's no way to stop it from peeling.
k first problem is that regular paint won't stick to plastic its not a good substrate so that's why its peeling. you have a couple of options if you really want to paint it. one you can go to the home depot they make a special spray paint for plastic i think its made by krylon, its good stuff, second you could use a 100% acrylic primer first, then you should be able to put about anything on top
whenever you paint anything there are only three words you need to know ';Prepare the surface';, so it is too late.....just pick all the paint off or sand it off with fine sand paper and start again...this time rough up the surface and prime it with a primer (BIN oil based version, is good for plastic). OR A good paint for plastic is puffy paint which is sold as ';Tulip fabric paint';. You can make lines and dots. You can paint with it too but the coverage will be translucent unless you use primer. Just be sure to rinse your brush often and dry it before using again...the paint dries fast. Good luck!
Its the preparation you cant paint straight onto old paint, you have to rub it down, then undercoat it then put the top coat on.
It needs to dry!
