Will I get into trouble with landlord for peeling paint?

My boyfriend and I live in a very old house. The paint and plaster has been peeling from the walls for awhile now, (over the course of a few years), and I'm wondering about telling the landlord. Will we get kicked out or fined for not doing something about it sooner?

Thank you!

Here's a link to show the layers of wallpaper beneath the plaster and paint:

No. Paint will last much longer than a few years. If it is peeling, it is not your problem. If it is recent paint that you have done, and it is peeling, then it is yours to fix.

As a matter of fact... not only is it not your fault, it is your landlords responsibility to fix and he should do so.

Call your city call, or find their web site and you will be able to track down tenent/landlord responsibilities in your area and most likely you will find that extreme peeling paint is something that they have to fix for you. Will I get into trouble with landlord for peeling paint?
If you have a landlord interested in protecting his investment, he will immediately make arrangements to have the place painted.

Peeling paint is considered normal wear and tear. You are not legally responsible for it unless you agreed to perform maintenance.
