What kind of tape can i put on my wall without it peeling the paint off my wall?

i am having some roofing done at my house and i want to lay some poly sheeting on some small rooms. i am planning to tape the poly to some sections of the wall but i dont want the paint to peel off when i remove the tape? which tape is good for this type of job? What kind of tape can i put on my wall without it peeling the paint off my wall?
painters masking tape, designed not to pull off paint. It's royal blue in color. But if you need something longterm for hold ing posters or that sort of thing, you should go to a local craft or hobby store. They carry a wall putty that is designed for that purpose that won't hurt the walls. I can't think of the name of it, right now, but any clerk there will know what it is.What kind of tape can i put on my wall without it peeling the paint off my wall?
3M makes a product that is designed to pull off of painted walls without taking off the paint. Look into it. It is called Command. It comes with hooks for hanging things. Other than that I would use the Blue painters tape. Don't use masking tape.
masking tape is usually okay. before you use it though you should put some tape in an unnoticed spot and see how it does.
painters tape---it is a low tack masking tape made for that purpose. you can find it in any paint department. it's usually green or blue
Hi!

Just top help out .... today I saw a Martha Stewart video on how to paint walls .... the blue painter's tape mentioned in the answers above was just what she used .... to keep the wall color from splashing onto the woodwork .... you really will be able to get some advice from the professionals ... they do know how strong the bond should be to hold the plastic .... please do not use regular masking tape .... .it leaves behind a residue which will discolor with time, and that is true of many other tapes ... which means that many tapes leave behind a tell-tale trail of adhesive which is not attractive and something you do not want, lest it ruin your nice paint surface...
