Take a damp cloth..dampen the paint you have painted on your sill and gently scrub off with a fine steel wool which will remove all the new paint. Use a good bonder once dry...something made to adhere to oil based paint (doesn't matter on name brand). I like the ones made with a shellac base. Allow to dry (will dry in a couple of hours). Then you can paint two coats of whatever paint you want. It will adhere and stay.When I'm decorating my window Sill, why is it the paint starts peeling off .?
Sounds as if you haven't prepared the sill properly.





You need to sandpaper it down almost down to the bare wood - assuming it is wood of course- wash it down with a little bit of distilled or boiled water on a cloth and let it dry for about an hour.





Then apply 1 coat of your paint and let it dry. Then apply another 2 or 3 coats letting them dry in between. - Done!





If your sill is made of stone, you can follow the same steps as above, but go to you hardware store for advice first.





If your sill is plastic, again I suggest you go to your local hardware store and ask them for advice. However, I think that if your sill is plastic, the paint you've been using is the wrong one as it's not compatable with the plastic your sill is made from.
I expect there was waxy polish on the sill which will prevent paint adhering properly. You will have to start again. Ignore advice to sand down to the wood. It is not necessary. You will have to remove the peeling paint and the wax. Use a nylon scouring pad (from a DIY store) and sugar soap in hot water.


The sugar soap is alkaline and will remove grease and wax. As a final clean, when the sill is dry, use white spirit and a cloth to remove any last traces of grease or wax. Use a good quality undercoat first followed by a gloss or satin finish. Dulux is about the best. With painting, preparation is everything. Applying the paint is the easy bit. If you proceed as I have said your sill will have a durable finish. Don't use any polish on it, just a damp cloth to clean and it will be ready for new paint in ten years time!
Before starting to paint you must sandpaper the surface with wet or dry paper. Wet it first then give it a good rub with medium wet or dry sandpaper. this gives a grip to the next coat which should be undercoat. When this is dry give a light rub with ordinary sandpaper {not too rough} then paint with gloss paint.Do not use one coat paint as this does not create a good background. Laurence.
Nothing can withstand u v over a period of time. I believe you did not remove the damaged paint film before repainting. Try removing them with the help of steel brush, scraper and sand paper. clean off the dust, apply a coat of wood primer, an under coat, follow up with 2 finishing coats, or as recommended by the paint manufacturer. do let the paint dry totally between application. to last longer but more costly use polyurethane paint.
The under coat must have been an oil based paint and you painted over it with an acrylic, water based paint. You'd need to sand off the old paint, apply a primer and then repaint it.
Sounds like bad preparation. It won't adhere to any underlying grease. Rub down with sand paper and use a sugar soap solution

It is under the 3 yeasr but over 8,000 miles on the warranty (3 yr/36,000). The paint is clearly a defect from the manufacturer as it is bubbling and peeling on the bumper only. I work in a Toyota service department...that should be warranty. The warranty on paint is 5 years, unlimited mileage. I am also in Canada, so our warranty may be different. I would suggest going to another dealership, or contacting Toyota directly.
I have this problem with my lexus as well except it's on my sideview mirrors and my door handles....
complain directly to toyota, there should be a number or web site at the back of your owners manual, they should be willing to correct the problem, and I agree with you three years is pretty early for the paint to be peeling.
That seems to be a problem of corolla bumpers. I suggest you go straight to toyota about this.

I bought a red Solara Sport on Feb. 28, 2007. The paint is chipping off really bad already, not just one localized place, the hood, roof, side mirrors, ect... Also, tons of little white scratches in several different places. I have not driven the car off of the pavement, every car I have ever owned I take very good care of. I emailed Toyota Corp. and expressed my concern over the paint possibly being defective, they suggested that I take it back to the dealership so that they can properly diagnose the problem, so I am doing that next week. However, from all the research I have done on the net thus far, I imagine that they will tell me that it is ';normal wear and tear'; seems like that is what they generally tell people. I feel the paint is definitely defective. Since finding all of the chips and scratches on my own car I have made it a point to check out any other newer Toyotas that I see and they too have several chips and white scratches on them. I am so disappointed because I really do love this car. I just wonder what it is going to look like in about a year from now if @ 2 months it looks worse than my previous car that was driven every day for 6 years!

My husband and I want to decorate our basement apartment for Halloween. I am making the decorations myself and want to tape them to the walls.

However, there is speciality tape you can find at Home Depot, or other home-improvement stores, for this purpose and it will not peel the paint off.

If you are careful taking it off you can use straight masking tape. They also make gum's that are specially made for that sort of thing, but when left more than a couple of weeks it can get nasty. If you use masking tape only use it for a couple of hours, or it might damage the paint. Blue painters tape can be used but watch that when you pull it off you are ';gentle'; so you can prevent damage. Note that heavy items will not hang or stay up for long and you may have to repeat the process several times before Halloween. The main methods of hanging stuff to have it last will damage the walls.





Consider extensive use of cobwebs on the walls. You can usually get them to hook to about anything and they don't damage the walls.
Most tape will leave a residue, except blue tape which isn't exceptionally good tack. You can, however, use 3M command hooks without damage to the walls for heavier items or blu or yellow tack for paper or light items. Craft stores and home improvement stores have 3M hooks and discounters, craft and office supply stores have blu and yellow tack.
Use painter's (blue) tape. It should release with no residue left behind. Hope this helps.

Did you use oil paint?


If you didn't it's time 2 re-prime w/an oil primer then 2 or 3 topcoats also in oil.


For metals undergoing fairly heavy usage latex won't cut it.

New paint peeling off in the bathroom

I just re-painted my bathroom. The bathroom already had 2 older layers of paint and all I did was sand, applied primer and then finally applied the new paint. Unfortunately, I noticed that the new paint just peeled off effortlessly especially around the tub area.





Is this because of the 2 older paint layers? Is this because of bad primer/paint? Is this water damage on the wall beneath? I did not see any mold or anything.

You used the wrong type of primer. There are primers specifically for high moisture areas. Go to a quality Paint store such as ICI Delux or Sherwin Williams, explain your problem and they will fix you up with the appropriate primer. Paint needs a good cure and a solid contact. If you applied latex paint over oil paint without first using something like KillZ, the paint will peel off. Also, if you shower too soon after painting, the paint might not have cured and would peel. A third choice is water damage, but that often shows up will bubbled paint.
it is because of the steam you have no ventilation.you need some kind of a fan in your bathroom i don't know if you have one but it should be turned on when taking a shower.the paint should of stuck unless you used a cheap primer.

your bathroom was probaly painted with a water based paint you should repaint it with an oil based paint.

You need a ';Tub and Tile'; paint, available at the big box hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc). They are made by Homax and Rustoleum. You will need to completely remove the paint you put on, and how you do this will depend on the type of paint you used. I'll assume that you're talking about the outside of the tub.


Get rid of all the peeling paint by sanding. Start with 120-grit and end with at least 220-grit, then repaint.


Any paint coat needs good adhesion in order to bite into the existing paint. You can't go wrong with a good coat of oil-based paint, however latex will work fine too.
you need a bathtub reglazing kit, available in most hardware stores, or get a professional to do the job for you. My guess is $150 per bathtub, it's as close as you can get to a factory finish.


If by any chance you remodeling the bathroom, make it right the first time and change the tub.
You need one of the kits especially made for tubs. Don't expect factory results though. Preparation is the key to a sucessful job. If you don't get the surface properly cleaned, the paint will not stick.
