Paint peeling failure how does it occurs?

It is not adhering to the surface. Preparing the surface sometimes as long as the actual paint job.Paint peeling failure how does it occurs?
The paint dries before they flow causes the peel.(orange peel)

The paint is peeling off brickwork of our 1920's house, how can I remove the rest without damaging the bricks

High Powered pressure washer. Be careful of the mortar joints they will probably need repointing when you are doneThe paint is peeling off brickwork of our 1920's house, how can I remove the rest without damaging the bricks
hire a sand blast company and if damage is caused by them you can claim the company insurance . dont attempt this your self call the professionals who are insured . then you can be sure the job is done properleyThe paint is peeling off brickwork of our 1920's house, how can I remove the rest without damaging the bricks
DON'T USE A PRESSURE WASHER - you will most likely damage the brick and/or motor which would be a VERY costly mistake.

The best product, which is used by historic preservationists, is

called Peel Away. It has even been used on This Old House. You can find product and order information at:

leave the gas oven on for the day then come home an light a match, the bricks will be blown apart but undamaged, build a modern house with the charred remains.
soda blasting
I would think get a painter in, and nitromorse comes to mind, but i am only a layperson. These professionals have things to strip, and that is what you are needing. Stripping of the paint back to the original brickwork, without damaging the brickwork. Should be easy peasy to a professional painter, (external painter may I add). Or. if you are skint. Chip away with those tools you get for wallpaper stripping, but chisel comes to mind. just protect the bricks, and NEVER PAINT OVER THE BRICKS AGAIN....
Go to your local Ace, Home Depot, or Lowe's Hardware Store and go to the paint section and get this stuff called ';Motsenbocker's Lift Off #4 or #5';

I worked for the company and it works very well! All water based, don't need gloves, just spray it on the paint, wait 5 minutes and with your finger, you can run it across the brick and all the paint will slide off with you.

www.liftoffinc.com
I've seen it done with a sand blaster.
You'd be best doing this with a sandblaster, the brickwork will need repointing afterwards.

If the brink is really hard you might be able to chip it off but its likely the first coat was lime-based and so soaked into the brick.

It would be bet to rip out the existing morter before the sand blasting man arrives.

Aboutæ‹¢275 per day, one day per single storey wall.

It'll look great and your walls will breath a sigh of relief. Don't fall for any of those brick sealers, walls are meant to breath.
What you should do is wire brush the flakey paint off , then buy a can of Stablising Solution wich comes by the gallon. Paint that on let it dry then re-paint your wall.
I used to do sand blasting and it depends on the type of brick. A professional company will do the job with either sand blasting or acid cleaning. They look well smart when they are done properly.
a power washer and a wire brush it wont get it all off but when your done

put a peel stop product on it you can get something like that from your local paint store
either a pressure washer or a good old fashion wire brush
First of all ....how to get it off isn't as important what type of paint you want to remove...Is the panit pealing off in strips or is it craked and flaking off...if it is the flacking off most likely its a lead based paint...be carefull and wear a respirator...with that said a pressure washer will work good.....sand blasting is another option but either one can cause some damage...most likely to the mortar between the bricks and damaged bricks too..which can be fixed.....Wire brushing it causes a lot of particals into the air and again if it is lead base use a respirator.....Hope this helps

Paint is peeling from all over the top of my car? what can i do to either repair it or make it alittle less?

to repair or alittle less noticablePaint is peeling from all over the top of my car? what can i do to either repair it or make it alittle less?
The only way to correct the problem is to have it refinished by a professional. With the clear coat pealing, the base coat is exposed and eroding. Then the primer will fail and then rust starts. It may seem expensive to repair, but it will save you a bundle in the long run.Paint is peeling from all over the top of my car? what can i do to either repair it or make it alittle less?
is it paint or clear coat? i had clear coat coming off the roof on my car and i took a razor blade and scraped it off, sanded it down and spray painted it.

Why does my Ceiling paint peel off?

Ive stripped my bedroom ceiling to the bare plasterboard as the paint was peeling off, and re-painted it with ceiling paint, but the paint is cracking and peeling off again. Any ideas why?Why does my Ceiling paint peel off?
The ceiling needs sealing first before final painting. Seal with a diluted emulsion paint. A bit messy so cover everything first. Then paint as normal. Also the ceiling above might be cold and this migh cause a problem as the cold surface will allow moisture to condense on it and this section might be permanently damp. Not dripping but slightly damp. Be sure that the loft is well insulated over this troublesome ceiling.

I have been a decorator for 30 years and this is a common problem. Why does my Ceiling paint peel off?
its quite simple really , youve got to get the monkeys with sledge hammers out of the ceiling BEFORE you paint it , if youre thinking i dont have monkeys maybe its an elephant with a tooth ache.............. or burgalers ,,,,,,,,,,, OR ALIENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is your boiler in your loft above your room??

if so then that will be why your paint is coming away, because it may be getting damp and working away at the paint, i dont know though.. its just a suggestion.
You need to seal the plaster board first

good luck, take it to your dealer that you bought it from if you bought it new because you should have a warranty that would cover something like this.I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The clear coat and paint is peeling. Is there a recall on this paint?

Take care.I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The clear coat and paint is peeling. Is there a recall on this paint?
I belive most them have a 100k warranty on paint. You might check that out Im not 100% certain. Also if you bought it used that might not apply. I would take it to the stealership and see what they say.

Candice you must not be familiar with the early 90's chevys. Specifically the beretta, the prob with the neons was the primer. I bet you drive a chevy though!
I didn't see a recall on the paint only certain engine cooling systems which can affect the engine.

You see this a lot especially on red or maroon colored cars but it is mainly due to inproper baking on of the color.

If you purchased it new, I would take it to the dealer and pitch a fit anyway. If you bought it used... I would probably do the same.

    Good luck.

You use a vinyl silk screen paint. I have been using it for the past 10 years on all my white shoes.Im painting my shoes with spray paint to add design..what can i do to keep the paint from peeling off?
ensure that your shoes areabsolutely dry before applying paint.Im painting my shoes with spray paint to add design..what can i do to keep the paint from peeling off?
sneakers? try using dye... spray paint won't stick to the material.
If you're painting on leather, you need to roughen it up a bit with sandpaper or a nail file so that the paint sticks. You might need 2 coats to get a smooth surface.

If you're painting on cloth you don't need to do anything usually. Some manufacturers recommend washing to take the sizing or starches out.
the spray paint will crack and peal the first time you take a step no matter what you do, get a dye or paint made for fabric

I have paint bubbling around my shower and peeling from a leaky shower head. ?

It's just around the edge of the shower, from moisture and lack of ventilation. For this job, what is the best course of action? I have begun to peel off the bubbly paint, and have found a soft powdery layer underneath. Do I sand to smooth and apply primer? Do I need to add another layer of whatever this powdery stuff is? Please help!?!?I have paint bubbling around my shower and peeling from a leaky shower head. ?
scrape all loose paint, then use a good primer, that 1-2-3 by zinseer is really good. Then use 2 coats of a quality paint, Probably should be caulked also after it is primerd but before you paint. Let dry thoroughly.Keep an eye on it and make sure it stays secure. Water leaks can do alot lof damage.

When I'm decorating my window Sill, why is it the paint starts peeling off .?

it only lasts about a week after i have finishedWhen I'm decorating my window Sill, why is it the paint starts peeling off .?
Take a damp cloth..dampen the paint you have painted on your sill and gently scrub off with a fine steel wool which will remove all the new paint. Use a good bonder once dry...something made to adhere to oil based paint (doesn't matter on name brand). I like the ones made with a shellac base. Allow to dry (will dry in a couple of hours). Then you can paint two coats of whatever paint you want. It will adhere and stay. When I'm decorating my window Sill, why is it the paint starts peeling off .?
Sounds as if you haven't prepared the sill properly.

You need to sandpaper it down almost down to the bare wood - assuming it is wood of course- wash it down with a little bit of distilled or boiled water on a cloth and let it dry for about an hour.

Then apply 1 coat of your paint and let it dry. Then apply another 2 or 3 coats letting them dry in between. - Done!

If your sill is made of stone, you can follow the same steps as above, but go to you hardware store for advice first.

If your sill is plastic, again I suggest you go to your local hardware store and ask them for advice. However, I think that if your sill is plastic, the paint you've been using is the wrong one as it's not compatable with the plastic your sill is made from.
I expect there was waxy polish on the sill which will prevent paint adhering properly. You will have to start again. Ignore advice to sand down to the wood. It is not necessary. You will have to remove the peeling paint and the wax. Use a nylon scouring pad (from a DIY store) and sugar soap in hot water.

The sugar soap is alkaline and will remove grease and wax. As a final clean, when the sill is dry, use white spirit and a cloth to remove any last traces of grease or wax. Use a good quality undercoat first followed by a gloss or satin finish. Dulux is about the best. With painting, preparation is everything. Applying the paint is the easy bit. If you proceed as I have said your sill will have a durable finish. Don't use any polish on it, just a damp cloth to clean and it will be ready for new paint in ten years time!
Before starting to paint you must sandpaper the surface with wet or dry paper. Wet it first then give it a good rub with medium wet or dry sandpaper. this gives a grip to the next coat which should be undercoat. When this is dry give a light rub with ordinary sandpaper {not too rough} then paint with gloss paint.Do not use one coat paint as this does not create a good background. Laurence.
Nothing can withstand u v over a period of time. I believe you did not remove the damaged paint film before repainting. Try removing them with the help of steel brush, scraper and sand paper. clean off the dust, apply a coat of wood primer, an under coat, follow up with 2 finishing coats, or as recommended by the paint manufacturer. do let the paint dry totally between application. to last longer but more costly use polyurethane paint.
The under coat must have been an oil based paint and you painted over it with an acrylic, water based paint. You'd need to sand off the old paint, apply a primer and then repaint it.
Sounds like bad preparation. It won't adhere to any underlying grease. Rub down with sand paper and use a sugar soap solution

  • The paint on my Toyota Corolla is peeling. It is past warranty but only 3yrs old. Who can I complain to?

It is under the 3 yeasr but over 8,000 miles on the warranty (3 yr/36,000). The paint is clearly a defect from the manufacturer as it is bubbling and peeling on the bumper only. The dealership won't cover it. A good quality company like Toyota should not havedefects like this happening on vehicles under 3 years. The paint on my Toyota Corolla is peeling. well, gm gives a 7 year unlimited mile paint warranty, if toyota won't fix it at no cost, I'll buy it from you and sell you an new impala or somethingThe paint on my Toyota Corolla is peeling. It is past warranty but only 3yrs old. Who can I complain to?
I work in a Toyota service department...that should be warranty. The warranty on paint is 5 years, unlimited mileage. I am also in Canada, so our warranty may be different. I would suggest going to another dealership, or contacting Toyota directly.
I have this problem with my lexus as well except it's on my sideview mirrors and my door handles....
complain directly to toyota, there should be a number or web site at the back of your owners manual, they should be willing to correct the problem, and I agree with you three years is pretty early for the paint to be peeling.
That seems to be a problem of corolla bumpers. I suggest you go straight to toyota about this.
Since when is toyota a good quality company? You can try writing a letter to the company.
    try going to another dealership
I bought a red Solara Sport on Feb. 28, 2007. The paint is chipping off really bad already, not just one localized place, the hood, roof, side mirrors, ect... Also, tons of little white scratches in several different places. I have not driven the car off of the pavement, every car I have ever owned I take very good care of. I emailed Toyota Corp. and expressed my concern over the paint possibly being defective, they suggested that I take it back to the dealership so that they can properly diagnose the problem, so I am doing that next week. However, from all the research I have done on the net thus far, I imagine that they will tell me that it is ';normal wear and tear'; seems like that is what they generally tell people. I feel the paint is definitely defective. Since finding all of the chips and scratches on my own car I have made it a point to check out any other newer Toyotas that I see and they too have several chips and white scratches on them. I am so disappointed because I really do love this car. I just wonder what it is going to look like in about a year from now if @ 2 months it looks worse than my previous car that was driven every day for 6 years!

Will hanging decorations with tape make the paint peel off the wall?

My husband and I want to decorate our basement apartment for Halloween. I am making the decorations myself and want to tape them to the walls.

Will the paint peel off when the tape is removed? The walls are painted sheetrock if that matters.

Will hanging decorations with tape make the paint peel off the wall?
Yes! Do not put regular tape on your walls.

However, there is speciality tape you can find at Home Depot, or other home-improvement stores, for this purpose and it will not peel the paint off.

OR, since you're just decorating for Halloween and the tape won't be on your walls for that long anyway, you could just get a roll of blue painter's tape. Will hanging decorations with tape make the paint peel off the wall?
If you are careful taking it off you can use straight masking tape. They also make gum's that are specially made for that sort of thing, but when left more than a couple of weeks it can get nasty. If you use masking tape only use it for a couple of hours, or it might damage the paint. Blue painters tape can be used but watch that when you pull it off you are ';gentle'; so you can prevent damage. Note that heavy items will not hang or stay up for long and you may have to repeat the process several times before Halloween. The main methods of hanging stuff to have it last will damage the walls.

Consider extensive use of cobwebs on the walls. You can usually get them to hook to about anything and they don't damage the walls.
Most tape will leave a residue, except blue tape which isn't exceptionally good tack. You can, however, use 3M command hooks without damage to the walls for heavier items or blu or yellow tack for paper or light items. Craft stores and home improvement stores have 3M hooks and discounters, craft and office supply stores have blu and yellow tack.
Use painter's (blue) tape. It should release with no residue left behind. Hope this helps.

If you didn't it's time 2 re-prime w/an oil primer then 2 or 3 topcoats also in oil.

For metals undergoing fairly heavy usage latex won't cut it.

New paint peeling off in the bathroom

I just re-painted my bathroom. The bathroom already had 2 older layers of paint and all I did was sand, applied primer and then finally applied the new paint. Unfortunately, I noticed that the new paint just peeled off effortlessly especially around the tub area.

Is this because of the 2 older paint layers? Is this because of bad primer/paint? Is this water damage on the wall beneath? I did not see any mold or anything.

Help.New paint peeling off in the bathroom
You used the wrong type of primer. There are primers specifically for high moisture areas. Go to a quality Paint store such as ICI Delux or Sherwin Williams, explain your problem and they will fix you up with the appropriate primer. They will also sell you a compatible paint.New paint peeling off in the bathroom
Paint needs a good cure and a solid contact. If you applied latex paint over oil paint without first using something like KillZ, the paint will peel off. Also, if you shower too soon after painting, the paint might not have cured and would peel. A third choice is water damage, but that often shows up will bubbled paint.
it is because of the steam you have no ventilation.you need some kind of a fan in your bathroom i don't know if you have one but it should be turned on when taking a shower.the paint should of stuck unless you used a cheap primer.

I have a bath tub that i painted and the paint that i used is peeling so i would like to know what kind?

i would like to know what kind of paint to use on my bath tub it is porcelin and it was blue but i painted whiteI have a bath tub that i painted and the paint that i used is peeling so i would like to know what kind?
You need a ';Tub and Tile'; paint, available at the big box hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc). They are made by Homax and Rustoleum. You will need to completely remove the paint you put on, and how you do this will depend on the type of paint you used. Good luck!I have a bath tub that i painted and the paint that i used is peeling so i would like to know what kind?
I'll assume that you're talking about the outside of the tub.

Get rid of all the peeling paint by sanding. Start with 120-grit and end with at least 220-grit, then repaint.

Any paint coat needs good adhesion in order to bite into the existing paint. You can't go wrong with a good coat of oil-based paint, however latex will work fine too.
you need a bathtub reglazing kit, available in most hardware stores, or get a professional to do the job for you. My guess is $150 per bathtub, it's as close as you can get to a factory finish.

If by any chance you remodeling the bathroom, make it right the first time and change the tub.
You need one of the kits especially made for tubs. Don't expect factory results though. Preparation is the key to a sucessful job. If you don't get the surface properly cleaned, the paint will not stick.

hello thats your clear coat coming off not a hole lot you cand to about it other than taking it to a body shop99 alero some kinda coating over the paint is peeling..how can i protect it and what should i do?
you can go to a dealer or auto store get your color matched with your cars paint . paint over it then wait till dry then get a clear coat paint to put over the new dry paint you just put on your car . PS this wont look like a pro job but will cover up the ugly
It is the clear coat that is peeling, and if its already peeling your best bet would be to have it repainted.
Ouch. I hate paint problems. You could get it repainted but in the end, the new paint job may be worse! The best advice I can give you is just wash it every week, especially now with the salt on the roads.
i own a body shop and its your clear coming off. a number of things could have caused this whether it was cheap clear coat, wasn't mixed properly, temperature during spraying, the list goes on. what i recommend is just going to a good body shop, not macco, and having them fix it. do not wash the problem areas or wax them, this will cause more damage. washing it a lot will cause your paint to oxidize and turn chalky and flake off eventually. depending on how bad it is they will either repaint the whole outside of your car or sand down the problem areas and over a few inches and reclear it and blend into your existing paint

I have a molded door that was (improperly) painted with latex and is now peeling. How can I remove all paint.?

The reason the latex is chipping of is because it was never primed correctly. You will have to remove the door off its hinges and sand it down with a hand/orbital sander (100-80 grit). You want to remove the doors because sanding them is messy and its easier to sand them when they are laying out flat on some horses or a table. The molded doors can also be stripped but sanding them down would be the best and easiest solution. Sand them down to the point of removing as much of the top surface of latex paint as possible. When your done. Clean off any dust and debris. Prime the door with a good oil base primer. This will cause superior adhesion for the top coats of paint you will be using. You can use latex, eggshell, semi-gloss, or oil.I have a molded door that was (improperly) painted with latex and is now peeling. How can I remove all paint.?
Once latex paint starts to dry, it begins to adhere to the fibers and may become permanent. Treat stain as soon after spill as possible. After scraping (the method of using a dull tool to gently lift off excess solid or caked-on stains) to remove any excess paint, sponge (the method of using a dampened pad to apply light strokes, moving outward from the center of the stain) the stain with a dry-cleaning such as Afta Cleaning Fluid. Then apply a dry spotter to the area and cover with an absorbent pad dampened with dry spotter. Let it stand as long as any stain is being removed. Change the pad as it picks up any stain. Keep both the pad and stain moist with dry spotter. Flush (the method of applying stain remover to loosen staining material and residue from stain removers) with dry-cleaning solvent and allow to dry. If any stain remains, sponge the area with water and apply a wet spotter and a few drops of ammonia. (Do not use ammonia on silk or wool.) Cover with an absorbent pad dampened with wet spotter. Let it stand as long as any stain is being removed. Change the pad as it picks up the stain. Keep stain and pad moist with wet spotter and ammonia. Flush with water and repeat if necessary. Allow it to thoroughly dry. When treating carpets, be sure to blot excess liquid with a clean absorbent pad.

What kind of paint do I use to paint my 16' fiberglass boat. My clearcoat is peeling off. It needs new paint.

It is a 1979 larson. It has had a clear coat put over the factory paint long ago. It is all peeling off. I want to do some of the prep work myself. I think I will just paint the top half. What kind of paint will work best? I walk on the hood of the boat alot. it is closed bow. What kind of paint do I use to paint my 16' fiberglass boat. My clearcoat is peeling off. It needs new paint.
Polyurethane will be the easiest product for you to use. Interlux's Brightside is fairly easy to find and simple to work with if you are otherwise unfamiliar with marine finishes. It can be brushed, sprayed, or rolled and you can still acheive a good finish.

If you get into two-part paints like Toplac, Imron, Awlgrip, Awlcraft 2000, etc., it will be much more difficult for you to obtain a good finish as they are much more sensitive to temperature, humidity, spray pattern, etc. These are professional-only paints, and (aside from Toplac), say so on the can. Awlcraft, for example, requires a primer, primer reducer, primer converter, surface cleaner, topcoat reducer, topcoat converter, and topcoat... all these extra necessities are why boatyards generally charge in excess of $100 per foot to apply these finishes.

You'll also need an appropriately sized air compressor and spray gun. I'd recommend a 1.3mm or smaller tip.

As for the ';mechanic'; who said you can have a paint shop mix imron for you... sure, they can. But it will be hard by the time you get it home. Imron, like Awlgrip is a two-part paint. As soon as you mix the two the clock is ticking on the reaction. What kind of paint do I use to paint my 16' fiberglass boat. My clearcoat is peeling off. It needs new paint.
polyurethane is the best ,its as close to emron ,as you can get,but it does really good on out door things like boats ,and equipment, you have to get it mixed at a paint store that sells automotive paint, but it last really good, and is fairly easy to shoot from a paint gun,i use it on boat trailers and it does very well it wont peel back like base clear coat will either, when this stuff dries its there for a life time, good luck with it,hope this helps.

It can be very dangerous. It is best if you wear a respirator and work in a well ventilated area. Keep children and pets out of the room until it is finished.

If the paint is not chipping or peeling, you may be better off painting over it instead with a super adherent primer that will seal it.

Apply whatever paint you would like over this. I prefer to use an indoor/outdoor acrylic latex paint on windows.Hey, I need help. I'm peeling the paint off my window dangerous?

They only recall cars for defects that may cause injury, that is just a lack of quality that you need to take up with the dealership.Any recalls on peeling car paint top coat?
Not all recalls are for safety defects. Ford and General motors have issued recalls for what is known as 'paint delamination'.General motors had several models with the topcoat flaking off as the car was driven. The dealers were advised to check the ones, presented to the dealer,by applying masking tape in the affected area. When the tape was removed,if paint came off with it,there was a delamination problem.

What can I use to paint a dresser that is not real wood with finish that is peeling off? Any suggestions?

Remove all the current peeling stuff, and lightly sand the rest. Paint with a couple of coats of appropriate primer (try taking a drawer to a real paint store -- they can suggest the right products for the job) and then finish with a coat or two of paint.

If you're dealing with MDF (which is what I'd guess for ';not real wood';), see: http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/S鈥?/a>

When you buy paint for this project, ask for one with ';good blocking resistance'; -- blocking is when paint adheres to itself better than to what's been painted, and it causes windows to stick, cupboard doors to stick, and dresser drawers to stick to the face frame. Typically, this sort of paint is sold for painting cabinets. What can I use to paint a dresser that is not real wood with finish that is peeling off? Any suggestions?
Use a good oil based primer. Some will stick to any thing. Then go over it with the color you like. What can I use to paint a dresser that is not real wood with finish that is peeling off? Any suggestions?
If it is in the process of peeling off, paint is not a glue. It will not hold it on.

You start by sanding off all the loose stuff off so that a solid non-peeling surface remains. and then you paint it. Paint sticks real good to a surface that does not move.

  • Keeping car paint from peeling?

the paint on my car hood has been peeling for a while. the spot keeps getting bigger (though right now its kinda stopped for a bit). the biggest spot is about half a foot long x a few inches. there are two main spots. is there anything i can spray on or put on it to keep it from peeling further. can you prime the spot and then paint it or what?Keeping car paint from peeling?
To stop the peeling you will have to refinish the hood. Mfg's a few years back had some quality problems with paint suppliers and didn't see the peeling problem until a few years after the cars were in service. Most Mfg's will repair the peeling if your the original owner.

A reputable paint shop can make the proper repairs.

If your good with your hands its possible to do the work yourself. It will take stripping and sanding the old finish down to metal then repriming and applying the correct color. A basecoat of color and a few coats of clear should make your car look good again. Read all the paint directions and follow to the letter--don't mix brands if you do it yourself. Good Luck.Keeping car paint from peeling?
the problem isn't the paint, but poor paint preparation. all you can do is sand down the car and prep the body properly for paint, and repaint the car.
Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep, Chrysler, all had crappy paint in the 90s.

There is nothing you can do about it short of stripping it ALL off and repainting.
The problem you are having is either poor adhesion caused by poor prep work when the car was painted or UV rays attacking the primer substrate causing the paint to peel. Either way you will end up striping and repainting the hood to repair the problem properly.
well now that it has already started peeling i dont kno how to stop it but my sisters bofriend kept his from starting polishing it every other day with some kind of car polish i dont know what its called but it smells good, he's been doing this since 2000 and his car still looks like new

are you sure you prepped it correctly? What paint should I use to paint A fiberglass door I used latex and its peeling Off?
You need to prime it first, unless it's factory primed. And where exactly is it peeling off?

After you strip the wallpaper(by peeling by hand, took 10 days),how to proceed to paint?

Congratulations! You've done the hard part. Now your getting ready to paint:

    1) Have you chosen your paint color yet? If not, I recommend that you match your paint with something you already have - like a pillow, curtains, a picture, etc. Get lots of paint tabs and bring them home. Look at the color tabs in the exact room you plan to paint, matching them to your other items. Lighting changes from room to room, so that's why I never pick a color right from the store.

    2) What kind of paint? In children's rooms, I pick a durable eggshell that can be washed. Gloss reflects too much light (in my opinion - makes it hard for kids to settle down in their rooms). Eggshell in children's rooms is washable but not too glossy. Otherwise, I like flat paint in bedrooms, becuase it makes it feel warm. Gloss in the kitchen/bath makes the room brighter and wash better. One gallon of paint will cover a 12' x 13' room with one coat.

*If you are going to need more than one gallon paint, make sure you mix the two gallons together in a 5 gallon clean bucket from the hardware store (about 2.00) before you start. Sometimes, the paint can be slightly different and you end up with different colors on your walls (this has happend to me 2x). Stir them together real well to ensure consistent color. Also, buy a roller attachment for the bucket. That way you don't have to pour the paint into a pan.

    3) Prep: wash your walls with water and a cleaning solution like Mr. Clean - to make sure you have all the paper glue off. (don't use dish soap b/c dish soap leaves a sticky residue). Fill any holes with spakle and lightly sand. I like to use blue painter's tape to protect my woodwork. I vacuum the floorboards before I start because dirt can get easily get stuck in the trim paint.

    4) I recommend applying a coat of primer on the wall before the chosen paint color. It helps make your finished job look cleaner. Sometimes other colors bleed under your new paint job, changing the finished look.

    5) I always start with the edges. Purdy brushes are expensive, but the very best in painting good edges. I don't use any of the fancy tools because they never seem to work well. Just a 1.5 inch Purdy brush for all trim.

    6) Buy a roller and roller pad. You can use an old broom handle for an extension if necessary. When you roll your paint, start with an X about 2 feet long then paint a box around the X. Fill in your box with strokes both up and down; this makes a real professional finished look.

If you are done painting for the day, but you plan to continue painting in the next 24 hours, you can cover your paint and materials with plastic (air tight) and save the project for tomorrow. If you plan to get back to it later than 36 hours, wash all your tools in warm water and store your paint in it's air tight bucket.

These are all professional tips, and I hope some of them help. After you strip the wallpaper(by peeling by hand, took 10 days),how to proceed to paint?
Are the walls even and free from all the wallpaper. 10 days is a long time. Do cracks need to be sealed? There should be a primer to apply so the plaster doesn't absorb too much of the paint.

A paint store will have the solution once you describe the bare wall. There are so many products to prime with, they will give you the correct bottle, to seal cracks, to use with the paint, whether its flat or semi=gloss, or gloss, etc.

Rest yourself, put your feet up, is how to proceed, and then go to the paint shop for professional advice so you don't waste a dime with all the work you've put into the room. Get good ventilation before you apply the primer and paint. Use a roller with an extension. They have easy half=circles to use near the ceiling to keep the painting neat, with no tape. They are like large half palettes. Are you planning new curtains? After you strip the wallpaper(by peeling by hand, took 10 days),how to proceed to paint?
You could have used ';Diff'; wallpaper removed and it would have taken hours. But, that's beside the point now.

Make sure you have all the glue off, if you haven't got it all off use ';diff'; now, just follow directions.

Use a good primer like ';Kilz'; to make sure the areas that are bad will cover good. Tape the Windows, etc, all the woodwork, the door knobs, etc. Put plastic down, I'm guessing your going to roller the paint.

If you spray, do the ceiling first, then work your way down. After your done, let it dry and look it over good, you may have touch-ups.
as long as your walls are smooth and there is no glue residue I would highly recomend priming the walls first. It may seem like a waist of time but it will be worth the results. one to two coats of primer depending on how the walls soak up the primer. You took the time doing it right keep up the good work.
you need to get rid of any left over glue then smooth walls with mud then prime it (I recommend killz primer) Then your ready for paint.
Before you start, make sure that the surface is smooth. By your brief description, I am betting that some of the wall board paper peeled off with the wall papper (or there may be a few sraglers left of the old paper.) To address this you will need to skim some wall board mud, (joint compound, spackle, etc) over those areas to sooth the places out.

If you want to keep the dust down after the initial application, you can use a warm water damp rag with a tight weave fabric pattern (cloth diapers work great) to rub the area smooth in a motion like waxing or buffing a car finish.

After that, you will need paint primer to seal the old wall and the wall mud.. Then paint away.. Use a 9'; roller anfd your favorite latex shade.. (then you can get into paint surface types flat, eggshell, glossy depending upon what ype of room it is...)

The paint is peeling off my phone, what the heck did I do?!?

I have the maroon env2. Earlier today I noticed that the paint was kind of bunching up on the edge of the left side, bit i didn't think anything of it, I just figured i dropped it and it scraped up a little bit. But later i looked at the bottom of my phone and the paint is completely peeling off of the bottom and is starting to pucker on the top. Is there a reason for this???? Did I do something wrong??The paint is peeling off my phone, what the heck did I do?!?
I'm not sure how it happened, but paint clear fingernail polish on the parts that are chipping. It will help seal the paint to the phone so it doesn't continue to peel. :D

Painting Advice (peeling paint, glued paper)?

I started to remove these glued papers off my wall %26amp; as I did the paint would begin to peel off. Now I have two huge spots where the paint had been peeled. I don't know what to do next, should I just paint over it or how can I remove the rest of the paint. It comes off pretty easy, just peels right off.Painting Advice (peeling paint, glued paper)?
yes peel everthing and start all overPainting Advice (peeling paint, glued paper)?
You will need to scrape the entire wall to get all paint off that is loose. If paint does not come off in certain areas, sand it off. You will then need to spackle and paint (you may be actually pulling off paint that has been coated over wallpaper)

No don`t mix them. Pill off as much paint you can. Use gripper primer by glidden. Then use a satin sheen or high. PVA only suports a flat or eggshell sheen. Not made for bathrooms.

  • Someone painted Latex paint over oil base paint in my rented house and it's peeling. What should I do?

I just did this in an old house. They had old wood doors and trim and I had to scrape it all off. It came off pretty good and the Shermin Williams rep gave me a good tip which was to use alcohol to help lift. It will kind of make the latex break down and lift. But I mostly scrapped. Then if you need to paint again which I am guessing you probably will they sell a primer that is specially formulated for Oil base paint and once you use that ,then you can paint anything on top of it oil or latex but I definitely would make the switch to latex. One thing I found was once you start scraping I just removed what came up with the scraper then when I went back the next day there was more scraping to do as it sat it would peel up some more and I was able to take more off. It wasn't too bad but keep in mind that if the oil base paint is really old it just might have lead in it so be carefull.Someone painted Latex paint over oil base paint in my rented house and it's peeling. What should I do?
Depends on how much work you're willing to do. Is this just the trim?

Latex won't stick to enamel unless the surfaced has been prepped, either by sanding, or priming.

If you want to remove the latex, you may be able to literally wash it off with hot soapy water and a scrubby pad.

After it's all dry and cleaned up - you'd need to lightly sand the enamel, and then repaint with water type you prefer. Generally, people use latex on walls and enamel (more durable) on doors and trim.Someone painted Latex paint over oil base paint in my rented house and it's peeling. What should I do?
I have been a painting contractor for more than 20 years. I would first ask you why you feel that you have to fix this problem. You are the tenant, are you not?

Sounds like a nightmare I have seen more than a few times...if you really want to tackle this beast. I have a few tips.

Scraping and sanding are the only way to remove the failing topcoat of latex. Next apply any one of many commercial products that goes by the general term of ';liquid sanders'; it is a chemical etching liquid that allows different products to bond together. Then (*most importantly) prime the problem areas with a penetrating stain blocker/peel stopping product.

Now you can consider what color you want to paint it.....

    Painting is 90% prep and 5% painting....the other 5% we drink! : )
cheap way, brusch it over with a wirebrush and repaint, good way, strip it compleatly down,(comercial products avail. in lowes ect.) and redo, but that takes time and effort

What is the best way to peel paint off a wall that has been painted over wallpaper?

Assuming that you want to remove the wallpaper: Then score the surface using a wallpaper scoring tool found at most paint supply stores. I like the round one with red handle, I think it's called a ';Paper Tiger.'; Then spray the wall using a garden sprayer filled with wallpaper remover that you can buy at any paint supply store and warm water. Let it sit for a while, you might need to spray it several times. Then start peeling the wallpaper off. In some cases you will need to scrape it off using a 6'; or 4'; wall knife.

If you just want to remove the paint from the wallpaper, then use a chemical paint remover like has been suggested above. Be sure to wear a respirator for those though.

Good luck. What is the best way to peel paint off a wall that has been painted over wallpaper?
Peel the paper off! What is the best way to peel paint off a wall that has been painted over wallpaper?
Scrape a horizontal line through the wallpaper and paint at the top of the wall.Use hot water in a spray bottle set at fine mist.It will come right off if you get the mist under the paper.
take wall paper and all with a steamer.
Chemical thinner can help you to remove the paint. That is available from the paint and hardware dealers.
    Remove the wallpaper.

    Tallie,

Semi-gloss paint over gloss paint won't cause this problem. Semi-gloss, gloss, flat, satin and eggshell are descriptions of the types of finish a paint has. Peeling paint is caused by different things. If a water based paint (latex paint) is applied over an oil-based paint, this may cause peeling. Moisture causes paint to peel as well. Paint will peel if the surface was not cleaned or prepped properly before painting. I am assuming this is an interior area that you refer to. If you can scrape the loose areas, sand them, wash the area and repaint it may help.
Yes it sounds like the house was painted first with an exterior enamel and then a latex over it. or it was not cleaned and primed before painting the newest coat.

The bad news is, There is no easy way to fix it, Even if you paint over it again, It will still contnue to blister and peel.

The only way to fix it is to scrap off the paint or pressure wash it to remove the loose paint, Then sand it to rough up the finish.

After that you will need to prime it and repaint it. Make sure that you use a good primer or sealer and a good quality paint.
    Wallpaper.
Go to the paint store and buy a product called ZAP or ZIP it strip's paint . Fast and easy.
If its not your house dont worry about it.If its peeling off let it peel.If you want you can scrap all the loose paint.or use a heat gun to get it all off.has to come off before you can repaint.

we have painted the bathroom ceiling which was plastered when we moved in.It is now all peeling off.Can you mix P.V.A and paint? If so how much are the quantities please? Our bathroom ceiling paint is peeling, help!?
Get paint that is made for damp areas (they sell special bathroom/kitchen paints) Regular paint will eventually steam off.

Unfortunately, if you already have that problem you are going to have to scrape off all the old/loose paint first, or else the new paint will just come off too. The paint for bathrooms will also deter growing mold and mildew due to moisture. Our bathroom ceiling paint is peeling, help!?
lol don't mix pva with paint, you'll end up with a orange peal effect. instead just brush on some pva mixed with water, 1 part pva, 10 parts water. brush it on, then paint over when dry.

of course this is not the best way, due to the nature of the room you should really use the correct paints, kitchen and bathroom paints are available from most places, or if you want to do the job right you should use a oil or solvent based undercoat first, this will stop the condensation from getting behind the paint and into the plaster.

it's always better to take your time in a bathroom and kitchen as the smallest mistakes can become huge in the weeks after your done.
This is a fairly modern idea mixing paint or painting over PVA. It is not taught in college and all the time-served decorators I have asked have never heard of it - and I also have worked as the paint advisor in a trade decorators merchants and no trained painters have heard of it either.

It is difficult to advise you as I don't know if your plaster wasn't dry or there was a chalky residue acting as a barrier or you didn't thin your first coat of paint or you used the wrong paint. Or you used emulsion in a very high condensation area.

Scrape the loose paint off. Don't repaint until you are sure the plaster is dry and wipe it with your hand to confirm there is no chalky residue - if there is, wipe it off.

Kitchen and Bathroom paint is a bit gimmicky. The best water resisitant bathroom paint is Dulux trade Quick Drying Eggshell, but expensive. The first coat on bare plaster is thinned out. Then add two more.

You could prime the bare plaster with Bullseye 123, but unless your stripping all the paint off you might have new areas come away later anyway, so it might be a waste of money.
its due to condensation. you need a bathroom extractor fan.

pva with water 50% mix. paint on the celling.

2 or 3 coats of pva (must fully dry between coats)

    then paint.
You really need an exhaust fan to cure the problem. While there are paints for high moisture areas, they are ';mold resistant'; not moldproof.

I have a stamped driveway and the paint is peeling off it looks like sunburn why? and can it be painted thanx?

From what these sites say your driveway may be lacking primer, or if it was repainted it may have latex over oil paint which will often cause peeling, but check out the links for more details.

What is the Canadian red book value for a 1997 Plymouth breeze peeled paint and transmission gone?

Donate it to a charity and get a tax write-off. Other than doing that, it has no ';value'; unless someone needs parts. What is the Canadian red book value for a 1997 Plymouth breeze peeled paint and transmission gone?
A 1997 Plymouth Breeze in Poor Condition (needing serious mechanical work, paint is peeled, etc), is worth around $300-500.

Subtract from that the cost of a transmission of $1200-1500.

Which puts the value at around negative $800-1000.

Unless you pay someone to take the car, it's a 100% loss for them. It'll cost 4-5 times the value of the car, to get it to be an okay car again. Not even remotely worth it.

Try giving it away, or sell it to a salvage yard for $200. That's about the only way it will have any value. What is the Canadian red book value for a 1997 Plymouth breeze peeled paint and transmission gone?
Lets see now last week car bodies were worth $60/ton, lets say it weighs 1 ton, now gotta get rid of gas tank, A/C, %26amp; all fluids. OK lets haul it to scrap on the truck for $25 fuel %26amp; expences. Now I'm into it for say 3 hours labour @ $30/hr + $25 fuel = $115 - $60 from scrap yard =$55 that u owe me for gettin rid of your clunker. This is a 12 yr old car with bad trans %26amp; paint ,it's basically worth nothing,if a salvage yard will buy it, jump at the first $50, go buy beer %26amp; relax.
About nothing. New transmission will cost around $1500-2000 to buy and install.

The car is worth less than that.

Doing the math...that makes the car pretty much worthless.

The exterior paint on my house is peeling...should I repaint or get siding installed?

If I had to make a guess, painting an average house would cost $200-$250 in materials and would take a weekend to complete the project. With a good paint you could probably go 10 years or more without needing a touchup.

Residing a house, on the other hand, would probably cost upwards of $8000-$10000 if done professionally and would also take a few days if done quickly.

If the existing siding is in good condition and just needs a scraping and a paint job, would you really want to spend that much money putting on new siding? Now if all the other houses in the neighborhood have new low maintenance siding and your house is the only one with painted siding, that may factor into your decision.

Personally I would recommend scraping the loose paint and repainting with a good exterior paint. Last summer I repainted my ';barn'; with Behr Premium Plus Ultra (100% acrylic latex). It's both a paint and primer so you don't have to prime the surface and then paint. You do however have to scrape any loose paint off before painting (painting loose paint just results in newer looking loose paint and will not bond the loose paint to the surface).

    ---- Editing for clarity ----

Just to clarify, for my paint job I used a primer/paint because I was in fact painting bare wood along with an existing painted surface. Typically you do not need to use a primer over an existing paint unless you are painting a latex based paint over an oil based paint.

I also found a bit more information about the cost of vinyl.

';A mid-grade vinyl costs about $1.60 per square foot to install, not including the necessary trim pieces'; - Source: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/article/鈥?/a>

So a 1200 square foot house, 1 level, would cost $15,360 plus trim ($1.60 per square foot * (30w' x 40l' x 8h')) installed based on that figure. The exterior paint on my house is peeling...should I repaint or get siding installed?
if you repaint, be sure to scrape the peeling paint first, re-siding will be much more expensive. The exterior paint on my house is peeling...should I repaint or get siding installed?
    dont listen to surge ...

Primer is watered down paint ...unless its oil...used to seal bare wood pores....

Of course you need to scrape loose paint ...Duh

A good paint job will last approx 6-8 years ....

Vinyl is about 3-4 times the cost of paint ....but Vinyl is Final ...
Siding is practically maintenance free so it just depends on what you prefer. Painting every 5 years or spending a little more money for freedom!

Whats the best way to paint a brick wall so it doesnt keep peeling?

when you are done painting your brick , take the paint brush and put a new coat on your car...same difference...painted brick is the pits....Whats the best way to paint a brick wall so it doesnt keep peeling?
Don't use Sandtex , it goes crumbly. Flaking paint is generally caused by people having applied oil-bound paints in the past, Treatment....One coat thinned-out PVA 2 coats Dulux Weathershield, guaranteed minimum 15 years , I know as I have now exceeded 18 years. Don't be tempted to use any old masonery paint, they last about 2 years.Whats the best way to paint a brick wall so it doesnt keep peeling?
Preparation will be the biggest factor. It has to be cleaned really well. Preferably with muriatic acid. If the wall's not too huge (like the side of a building) you could even use a compressor to help remove dust particles from the bricks pours.

BTW, dilute the acid you use and scrub with a push broom then rinse with water.

You should use a primer/sealer coat first and follow up with a good quality paint. Use thin coats and follow the directions for timing between coats to keep the peeling away for many years.
Sandtex is a good paint for this, but you MUST use a stabilizer and not a primer, stabilizers can be purchased in builders merchants or some DIY stores, don't accept any suggestions that 'this will do' if it is not labelled as a stabilizer it will not do.
Use a good brand of masonary paint.
    Use masonry paint.
seal the brick first, and use good quality paint, and follow the instruction on the tin
Please do not paint brick, its nasty! and will decrease the value of your property. If you still wish to carry on, ill send my brother round hes top notch
take off all the paint and leave it just plain brick if you don't like that stain it stain doesn't come off and you can get it in all different colors. Good Luck!!
Use a PVA coat first. This seals and adheres. Then paint over it with outdoor paint, a good quality like Sandtex. Its guaranteed for 10-15 years. Use a brick or mediterranean colour so it doesnt show the spats. Happy painting!
walls are not meant to b e painted but if you really have to then paint it with dulux weathersheild ....but you will have to paint it every year .to try and the water out ..at least two coats
first of all remove any loose flaking paint with a scraper and a wire brush for between the bricks.secondly apply a coat of stabilising solution and leave to dry for 8 hours min.thirdly apply a thin coat of masonary paint then after its completely dried apply a thicker second coat. PS depending on weather if its a bit iffy use an oil based masonary paint its rain proof in about half hour.but if its great weather apply a water based masonary paint its easier and less messy.use a long pile roller as it will get beetween the gaps and remember to put down dustsheets.I'm a painter of 15 years......and this weather is killing my outside work.

When I applied the new paint, it won't stick and is peeling. It seems there is some kind of rubbery residue there. How can I fix this so I can paint and it doesn't bubble and look a mess? I thought this seemed too easy to just wet it and scrape it. :(Scraped off my popcorn ceiling, now the new paint is peeling. Help.?
We are going to try that with our ceilings. From what I've heard, you must apply a sealer of some type over the raw ceiling. Then you put some ';mud'; over it. Let dry for a few days and then paint. Should work, from what my contractor told me.Scraped off my popcorn ceiling, now the new paint is peeling. Help.?
the popcorn ceiling was not asbestos (hopefully) if so you really got things too worry about......whatever you do do not cause airborne dust from the stuff........it was widely used in older homes till it was banned in the US.........you may need to have the stuff tested....if it is and you already removed a bunch hmmmmmmm, move to canada, cause you are in deep dooodooooo

you will need to scrape the cieling again to get rid of the junk up there plus the new paint that is peeling...(after it dries) sounds like you will need to sand the rest ofthe rubbery goo off, then get a primer paint....home depot or lowes will be able to help you with your choices...
You didn't say, so I may be way off on this. Cooking fumes

over time will settle on walls and ceilings. To assure that

the new paint will stick, wash the surface with a strong

solution of TSP. ( Try-sodium-phosphate ) Remove all the

residue let dry and paint. Get the TSP.at the hardware store.

    Hope that helps.
The popcorn had oil in it. The celing needs to be wiped down with a laquar thinner. Good Luck
ok, now here is the easy fix. put a fresh layer of 1/4 inch sheetrock over it, youll have a bueatiful flat new ceiling instead of a funky uneven one...
You can solve this problem easily... but first you'll need to get that peeling paint off the ceiling... which means you're back to scraping... but have faith. It won't take as long to get the paint off as it did to get the popcorn off. Once it's off, follow these steps to get it right:

    1. Wash the entire ceiling with liquid TSP. You'll find this at any home hardware store. I highly reccommend the liquid and not the powder as the powder is toxic, it's harder to mix with water and you'll have to rinse it off after. With the liquid, it's not toxic, it's easy to mix and you won't have the extra step of rinsing it off. TSP will remove all grease, grime, dust, dirt, and most anything else that keeps your paint from sticking properly. Let the ceiling dry completely before passing to the next step.

    2. Prime the ceiling with an oil-based primer. I prefer Bull's Eye 1-2-3 or Kilz. And yes, it has to be oil-based primer. It will cover whatever is on that ceiling without a hitch. And though you cannot paint with latex on top of oil PAINT, you can easily paint latex paint on top of oil PRIMER. Let the primer dry.

    3. Paint with your paint. It can be latex, no problem.

Enjoy your new popcorn, paint-peeling free ceiling!

You may want to use a paint remover. There are many in the market - check if the paint remover is for wood, wall or metalThe paint is peeling off the drywall. I've scraped all I can off. What's the best way to get the rest off?
Get a sander to remove the rest and use a mask so you don't breath in the particles. That is assuming this is not lead paint of course. Then mud and prime. The paint is peeling off the drywall. I've scraped all I can off. What's the best way to get the rest off?
    Rent a sander.

Use primer and good paint next time
    Paint over it.
If it's drywall, you don't have to remove it. Just be sure to sand where it's scraped or peeled. If you're going from a dark to light color, use a primer and be ready to put on at least two coats of paint.
You really don't need to get it all off if you are repainting with a quality paint. You can sand it (if it doesn't contain lead). Use a good primer.
try using spirit to take out remaining paint

    Peeling paint on walls...?

I live in an area where the houses are built entirely of cement blocks including interior walls. From what I can tell the cement blocks are covered in a very smooth coat of cement applied like plaster. Then it seems they just paint over that. Many homes here have problems with the paint peeling off the wall especially near the floor boards. I assume it is a moisture issue.

There must be something that can or should go on the cement prior to paint. Some type of water proof primer? Any painters know?Peeling paint on walls...?
Hi, and you are correct, it is moisture that is causing the problem. Get an exterior oil based primer, and use that before painting. That will stop the peeling. Byee Oh, if you are going to put on a waterproof sealer first,be careful as some products take up to 45 days to cure, and you can't prime until the sealer is 100% cured. Just to let you know. Byee againPeeling paint on walls...?
Sounds like you may need a sealer first, then a primer before paint. You should ideally check for rising damp also.

What is a method for peeling emblems off a vehicle yourself, is it harmful to the paint to us a heat gun?

i have a chevrolet silverado and am looking to take the emblems off with a heat gun and wondering if this is the right methodWhat is a method for peeling emblems off a vehicle yourself, is it harmful to the paint to us a heat gun?
Hold on there, cowboy! A heat gun can blister your paint if you're not careful with it. You might want to just use a hair dryer if you want to try the heat method, as it is much less likely to do damage. You can use a plastic knife to pull the emblem off and then just peel off the remaining glue with your fingers. A razor blade will work too, but you have to be careful you don't nick the paint or cut yourself. Whichever method you chose, just take it slow and easy. If you rush it, you will mess something up. What is a method for peeling emblems off a vehicle yourself, is it harmful to the paint to us a heat gun?
a heat gun is the right tool , do not let the gun stay in one place for a long time keep moving back and forth a little at a time we use a razor blades if you do keep the razor strait and flat as you can let the heat do the work. watch you hand by the heat gun. if you do leave the gun in one place you will blister the paint right off the car....worked in auto body
They generally bake the paint after they apply it. Heat isn't going to hurt it any.

A piece of fish line helps also, use it like floss to get behind the emblem

Homeowners insurance cancelled for peeling paint.?

Why would an insurance company cancel your coverage because of peeling paint?Homeowners insurance cancelled for peeling paint.?
Because that PAINT help keeps water out of your house. Peeling paint, means the wood under it can rot, and then your structure rots, and eventually will collapse.

We have a garage floor that has been painted/porch/deck paint and it is peeling what can we do to ?

We would like to know what type of paint we can use for it not to peel? Please helpWe have a garage floor that has been painted/porch/deck paint and it is peeling what can we do to ?
I had this problem scraped as much as could off the floor used a preasure washer. The previous owner painted over oil and grease. the paint wouldn't stick. Once I got it clean i painted with a quality paint and have not had a problem since. Except for skid marks from motorcycle. that are hard to remove with a mop.We have a garage floor that has been painted/porch/deck paint and it is peeling what can we do to ?
The paint is pealing because of the moisture coming from the concrete, this will likely be a repeating problem if you keep painting.

Get a high pressure power washer (can rent them if you don't want to buy) and power up all the old paint .

You really want to put down epoxy as that will seal and protect your floor....My fire department had it done and it is also has sand embedded in it to prevent slippery floors when wet.....It takes the wear and tear of the trucks very well and cleans up with soapy water if there is any grease....

I suggest having a contractor do the floor so it is done right and you get a warranty....My FD has a 10 year warranty on the floor.
you can power-wash the old paint off and re-paint if u like or you can tile the floor with linoleum tile or carpet for easy oil and grease cleaning

Can you help me fix the peeling (in places) paint on my dining & living room ceilings (house bult in '52)?

The paint has peeled and dropped off several places on the ceilings in our 1952-built ranch. It is flaking in others. We had the living room ceiling fixed and repainted about 15 years ago, but it's doing it again. I didn't pay attention to what the repair involved at the time as we hired it done. In view of how difficult it is to get anyone to even give us an estimate in our area, I would like to do it myself this time. There is a full attic above, but it is very low and my husband refuses to enter it . ****Could something up above be causing the paint to peel, flake and crack at a pretty slow rate? There are no stains or mildew, just peeled and cracking paint*****. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.Can you help me fix the peeling (in places) paint on my dining %26amp; living room ceilings (house bult in '52)?
Sounds like you have alot of humidity possibly in your attic or even in that room. Attic fans are fairly inexpensive.

In our bathroom we got a paint scraper that screws on to a long handle %26amp; scraped what was peeling %26amp; cracking. Then we put a stain blocker %26amp; sealer on before painting it. You can't tell it was in such bad shape unless you know to look for it.

There's also a type of plywood you can put on that absorbs moisture. It's usually used in the bathroom but can be used anywhere there are moisture problems.

Plus it could be just a cheap paint. I used to think there wasn't any difference. But there's a huge difference. Both Home Depot %26amp; Lowes have home improvement classes as well as you can ask questions w/o it costing anything both in the store %26amp; online. That would be the best place to start.

Sometimes I just google the problem %26amp; find the answer in another chat room.

But make sure you know what to do %26amp; what you need before starting. Take it from one who knows it CAN look worse than before you fixed it. Then you have a bigger mess to correct. Find out before you attempt it on your own. They aren't called pros because it's easy. But there's definitely a sense of satisfaction doing it yourself, that makes it worth the effort. Can you help me fix the peeling (in places) paint on my dining %26amp; living room ceilings (house bult in '52)?
Paint peels because it gets ';pushed off'; of the surface. The most common pusher is water and heat combination.

The problem will be in the attic. It may be a leak from the roof. It may also be a spot where there is less insulation than in other areas of the ceiling, Or the vapor barrier has a rip in it there which allows the plaster to get colder than the rest of it. Moisture condenses on cold surfaces. It would soak thru the paint and into the plaster.

This process happens all the time, but more evenly throughout the house 24/7. And later thru the later part of the day, steams off when the air is warmer outside.

I am betting it is that simple as it takes a long time for this problem to show, whereas water leaking in thru the roof is evident after a snow melt or rain shower.

Painting over old and peeling paint.?

I am remodeling an old house. The paint is very bad, it is peeling in spots and I am wanting to paint over it. Will I have to physically scrape all of the old paint off or will primer smooth out the surface and create enough of a seal that I can successfully apply a new coat of paint? Thanks!Painting over old and peeling paint.?
Scrape off all of the loose and peeling paint, and as much of the remaining paint as possible...

    Apply your primer...

If the house hasn't been painted in a long time, and has wood siding, don't be surprised if the wood soaks up the primer and you have to apply a second coat....

Paint with a high quality paint like Sears Weatherbeater or Sherwin-Williams...Painting over old and peeling paint.?
My friend i'm afraid you're going to have to go the route to remove all the old paint and lightly ruff up the finish. After that use a primer paint, doesn't really matter about the color (so long as the primer isn't darker than the finish paint). Primer let dry for 24 hrs and then finish the job painting the desired finish color.
I have the same problem with my house! Remove the paint for sure! What's probably happened is that someone originally used oil based paint and then acrylic was used over top. It seems to cause that blistering effect.... It is probably lead based paint as well so when you sand it to smooth out the edges, make sure you are wearing a mask!

    Cheers!
Jonathan F - Sophie B had some good words of wisdom, however, I recommend Behr products. I've used others to cut cost and ended up having to do more coats than should have been necessary and, ultimately, paid more than I should have as well. And just a painting tip that everyone probably knows - the prep is where the work is. The painting is the easy part. Good Luck on your project. LT
If you do not scrape off the old and sand it the new paint will not stick and will blister off with the old paint as it continues to deteriorate

i am doing renovation for my place. most prob will be using nippon, but there are ugly white old tile in the kitchen and bathroom, wana use paint to cover them w/ a toneHow to use normal paint to paint tiles and make them last longer w/o peeling off?
Ok, tiles are usually hard ceramic coated.

Now, I would wash them in a mild acid, to take a bit of the coating off, and then scuff them up some more, and hit them with an enamel, or even a latex paint.

If you use latex, then you cant wash them, or the latex will peel, enamel you can wash and no peeling.

Ive heard of people using kiltz as a prewash before painting, so you may want to try that.

    I wish you well...

you can scuff up the tile, then use a primer then use a good enamel paint.
Try these two websites, I think they can answer your questions.Interiordec.com %26amp; grahampaint.com
Basically, once you've applied the paint, you'll want to clear coat with a sealant. That way when you go to wash the tile you'll not wipe off the paint.
What ever you do don't use waterbased paint because it will come off when wet. Try using a permanent enamel paint. That way the only way of getting it off is with paint thinner. Good luck.

What would you suggest to fix. It is a 95 Town Car with Green Metal Flake paint. I am not looking for perfection, just a reasonable best way to fix.My paint is good butt the clear coat is peeling off my car.?
I'm sorry to tell you this, but the only way to fix that problem correctly is to have the car repainted. The clearcoat has to be removed and a new basecoat and clearcoat put on. I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself, unless you have experience in paint and bodywork. I've seen people try to wet sand the clearcoat off and salvage the paint, but it's impossible to do. It ends up costing them more to repair in the long run.My paint is good butt the clear coat is peeling off my car.?
Go to are car specialist who can paint vars and most likely they would have the clear coat your looking for or you could buy some at supercheap auto, repco or any other car hardware shop and buy some and apply it yoiur self
Nothing will save it except a complete repaint.

I have a bike with a popped tire and the paint is peeling off. I want to keep the bike, but fix it, but how?

its about 5 years old. The front tire is popped, the paint is peeling and I need a new chain for the bike. Is this fixable, and if so where is a good place to have it fixed?I have a bike with a popped tire and the paint is peeling off. I want to keep the bike, but fix it, but how?
Any bike shop can fix it for you (ask for a quote) or you could have a go at fixing it yourself.

Repainting is the most difficult job because to do it properly you have to take the whole bike to pieces (including the crank arm) and strip the old paint off and respray the frame.. good fun if you're into that kind of thing but it's a big job. Still, you could just rub down the bad spots (emery/glass paper) and touch them up with primer.

Fixing a puncture is simple enough especially if it's the front wheel (the back is a little trickier) and there are lots of guides on the internet on how to do it - or better still buy a bicycle repair manual.

To fix the chain you need a chain-breaker; you can buy one in any bicycle store.

If it's a derailleur geared bike you'll need to study a manual to understand how to put the chain back on because when you take the chain off, the arm will spring up and the whole thing will look strange. It's actually quite simple but the way the chain loops around can seem confusing.I have a bike with a popped tire and the paint is peeling off. I want to keep the bike, but fix it, but how?
    Chains are cheap.

Fixing a flat is something that any bike owner should and can learn to do easily. Note that if the *tire* is actually torn or split, you'll have to replace it; if it's just the *tube* inside the tire that has a hole, that can usually be repaired (see the link below).

Paint is more difficult. If it's just scratched it may not continue to peel off. I would actually be surprised to see paint 'peeling' off a bike unless it had been someone's handpainted job that they did with outdoor furniture paint. If you want to do it cheap and have it look good for a little while (and maybe have to touch it up sometimes), use automotive spray paint. Remember to take everything apart and paint *only* the frame. If you want it to be more durable for a long time, spend more money and get it professionally powder-coated.

If you want to take it to a shop and get it fixed, talk to local cyclists and find out what shops they use. I could tell you which shops in my city know what they're doing, which ones are friendly to commuters and couriers and which ones are snobby and only deal with athletes, and which ones are just incompetent. But that won't do you any good in another city.

the fact that it is peeling off a plaster wall sounds like lead paint. plaster walls are from the 70's and therefore the paint is probably lead paint.
    Scrap all the loose paint.

    Fill with joint compound

    Sand

    Prime

    Paint

Use products made for the bathroom and make sure the exhaust fan is working properly.
I think it hard to say without seeing the problem but sound like a moisture problem. If the bath dosnt have an exhaust fan it can cause paint to peel like this. I personally dont think your going to be able to get all the pant off. I would suggest scraping as mush loose paint off as possible. Coat the walls with a good coat of kilz paint. The oil base one is always better but smells, if you can stand the smell use that one. then fill the voids with joint compound, sand then prime and finish coat.Kilz 2 is a good primer and Kilz color is a nice finish and is available at Walmart. A paint with a sheen is better in a bath because it holds up better with moisture (not my favorite but it is better)

The paint on my wall is bubling and peeling. why?

The white paint on the drywall has bubbled up and peeled off over the last 12 months. The paint is probably 4 or 5 coats thick and is above a vent in my house. Has anyone else had a problem like this? The paint on my wall is bubling and peeling. why?
Your problem is related to inadequate prep on the wall prior to painting. It's going to take alot of work to fix this. A heat gun will help to peal off the old paint, then you can wash the wall with TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate) let this dry then sand the wall smooth and it will be ready for primer and paint.

Most paint problems are caused by inadequate prep work. I usually spend twice as long on prep as I do actually applying paint and have always had good results. The paint on my wall is bubling and peeling. why?
Moisture. Find the moisture problem and fix it. I used to have the same problem in an old house where the drywall was over a brick chimney. Good luck.
You mentioned a vent so a vent can draw moisture so this might be the reason for the bubbling paint. Another reason for paint to peel and bubble is if a latex paint has been put over an oil-base paint---that is a no, no! You must put a kitz paint or primer over oil paint before applying latex on oil paint.
You probley have had a leak or alot of moisture in that area. Best to take the vent down and see if you can feel any moisture.
The problem is caused by moisture within the walls...the solution is to install small vents, scrape off old paint and repaint after wall has thoroughly dried.
If this is happening in a bathroom where hairspray has been used, that may also be a good cause. The walls need to be thouroghly cleaned before painting. A coat of binz or zinzer primer may also necessary. If thats not the case, you have a moisture problem which would require eliminating the source and not just venting the moisture.

Really nothing at all, unless a class action suite is taken out against Ford there is nothing that can be done, You have to prove that the primer was bad, and a body shop guy won't hold up in court, you have to have documents from Ford that they used bad paint. Sorry sounds like a bad deal

The paint in my bathroom shower keeps peeling and flaking.?

My landlord gave me the same paint that he used initially and it ';amazingly'; does the same thing. I need to know a brand/type of paint that will not peel or flake in an heat/moisture environment. The paint in my bathroom shower keeps peeling and flaking.?
Actually, the problem probably isn't your paint. You probably need better ventilation in your bathroom. Do you have a fan/vent? Run it whenever you take a shower. If you are, have your landlord take a look at it. There are some good sealing paints out there, but no matter what it is, it needs to dry off!The paint in my bathroom shower keeps peeling and flaking.?
Not knowing the stores around you I wont go into brands... But most manufacturers make a mildew resistant paint. It will live up to the moisture. Also, prep the area well, use a primer coat it if needed. And in my experience these types of paint mean it when they say use in well ventilated areas.
who paints their shower? it should be tiled or fiberglass so that the paint wont do that, so the drywall doesnt get wet and rot and the wood doesnt rot etc etc etc
Your landlord needs to replace the paint with one of the tub surrounds, he will have more money in paint eventually that what a tub surround would cost, paint will always eventually peel and flake in a shower.
your problem sounds more like preparation than paint, sand and seal. remember painting is 98% preparation , 2% painting

rent a floor sander. looks like buffer but uses sandpaper instead. it is quick an easy.
The easiest way would be to borrow or hire a belt sander with a course paper and then go to a fine paper for a smooth finish. I have recently done exactly this and then finished with a product called Tuff Coat Tung oil which is designed for harsh outdoor decking. It is very easy to apply and gives an outstanding finish that will outlast any other timber coating.

  • Chipped and peeling paint?

Hey, Well when I got out of class and went to my car I noticed a nice 2 foot dent in my rear right passenger door. It looks like someone scrapped up against my car and left, so now I have an indentation and the paint is starting chip all over the place. I need a cheap fix any one have any recomendations?Chipped and peeling paint?
i've heard of people that will come out and basically suck the dent out... sorta like if you dent a plastic water bottle. kind of a weird analogy, but like sucking the dent out with your mouth...then you'd probably have to paint over the chipped areas, so the body doesn't rust or anything like that... i don't know any of these groups, and even if i did, i don't know where u live, so you'd have to do a little research.Chipped and peeling paint?
If the panel is caved in, you could take the interior trim panel off and push the door panel back out from the inside. It won't be perfect, but the majority of the dent will push out and your window will go down if you need it to. If it's not really pushed in all that far, and what you have is a crease that runs the length of your door, you aren't going to do much about it. Knock off all the loose and peeling paint edges that are not adhering to the metal. Go to an auto paint store that sells to body shops. They will help find the paint code and mix up a half pint of paint for less than the dealer wants for a half oz. tube of touch up. DO NOT REDUCE THE PAINT or it will be too thin to brush it on. Using a small paint brush, touch up the bare metal. If you want to spray the paint on, they can sell you an aerosol cartridge to spray the paint just like a spray paint can does, but it costs more and you may have to put an additional clearcoat on as well as buy reducers and other chemicals. Now it's getting expensive.
Get on the horn to your insurance company and tell them about it. This should be covered under your Uninsured motorist coverage. I realize deductibles can costly, but ignoring it won't make it go away, and you obviously care about your car's finish. My son recently put a dent in our car running into a snowbank. The dent was about double the size of a man's palm. That dent cost $1000 to repair; my cost: $200. Er, make that HIS cost, lol.
They have a paint repairer that comes in a tube. It matches any car color and you can rub it on to remove superficial scratches. The denting will probably still show though, but it wont be as obvious.

How do I manually remove old peeling car-wax buildup from exterior body paint?

The most effective and economical rubbing compound I've found is the 3M Imperial Machine Glaze, which can be used by hand as well as with a buffer. You can find this at a good auto parts store, usually by the quart. Whatever product you use, it may take several applications to remove all of the old wax and grime.

Also, if you have any black plastic trim or moulding on your car, wipe on a product like Black Magic silicone gel a day or two before you start polishing with compound. This coating will soak into the plastic and help protect your car's trim from discoloration, and will save time trying to keep the compound off those areas. How do I manually remove old peeling car-wax buildup from exterior body paint?

My bathtubs were refinished with a white paint finish when i bought my place. Now the finish is peeling off.?

How can i remove the finish without ruining the original porcelan? My bathtubs were refinished with a white paint finish when i bought my place. Now the finish is peeling off.?
I had my bath tub refinished professionally and the same thing happened to me. What happens is that over time if you take baths or long shower the water manages to get under any microscopic fracture. You can drop a plastic bottle into the tub and it might crack the paint. Water does not get under the crack, but over time it will fracture more and more until it finds it's way under the paint. This happened to me three times and I had the contractor come back and fix it. Finally I sold the house and the new people replaced the bath tub.My bathtubs were refinished with a white paint finish when i bought my place. Now the finish is peeling off.?
Did the previous owner actually painted the tub themselves?

if they did you might need to call a pro and either get the tub re glazed or replace it with a new one . Get an estimate and compare the price first, then you decide!

They probably painted over to cover up the chips and marks , the buggers!
Oooopppsss! You can buy a unit that fits over the whole tub and walls.

The paint on my dining room walls is peeling and i don't know why?

how should i best repair it and how can i prevent it from happening again...it is latex on latex so it isn't that....The paint on my dining room walls is peeling and i don't know why?
Sounds like the wall might have been dirty and the paint did not adhere. Just scrape off the loose areas, feather the edges with sand paper, prime it and repaint. That should fix it.The paint on my dining room walls is peeling and i don't know why?
All the answers before mine are good and possible causes. if its not moisture, its probably not cleaned. On my older home and reason why I reply is that I found some hidden oil stains that the latex paint did not adhere to. It was a result of kids playing with some kind of colored pen that left a really bad residue. I had to apply a base to it before painting it over again.
COULD BE MOISTURE IN THE ROOM OR EXCESS HEAT, I THINK TO PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENIG AGAIN IS TO SAND IT DOWN GOOD AND WIPE THEN REPAINT THE AREA
You may have had a water leak.Find it, fix it, then sand refloat repaint. Or if wood sand and fill, repaint.
Somebody painted the wall without cleaning it properly and letting it dry, or you have a water leak on the other side of the wall. Strip it, sand it, prime it, and paint it
Was the old paint (underneath) a semi-gloss or gloss? The only Laytex paint you can paint directly over is flat. All others need to be sanded and the higher the gloss the more you have to sand it. Most Home centers sell a product called liquid sandpaper. You just wipe it on and it eats into the old paint so it has a rough surface for the new paint to adhere to.

Also the more expensive paints stick better. If you had any wax or grease (like near a stove in the kitchen) you will need to put a good primer on first.
